Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)
Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at Abbey Park School.
We take CEIAG seriously here at Abbey Park School. We want students to be aware of the range of career options that are available in the local area and the pathways into them. This might be through a traditional “A” Level, University route, through vocational courses at local colleges or an Apprenticeship with a local company.
Our careers programme starts in Year 7 and continues with lessons and assemblies in all the subsequent years. We are working towards meeting the Gatsby Benchmarks for Careers Education and regularly review our progress towards them. They are listed below, more information can be found here at the Gatsby website (http://www.gatsby.org.uk/education/focus-areas/good-career-guidance).
The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each pupil
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance
The yearly programme is outlined below. Within this programme we also work with local employers to provide students with the opportunity to meet with employees to find out what jobs might entail, visit workplaces and Universities to see what they might look like and experience a job interview during year 10. We are developing our personal guidance provision to provide all students with an opportunity to meet with an independent careers adviser.
Students in all year groups are registered on Careerpilot and have an opportunity to develop their careers understanding throughout the year.
We encourage all parent/carers to discuss careers with their children discussing different education pathways into employment and local employment opportunities. The weblinks below link to useful tools that parents can use to facilitate these discussions and local market information that identifies the opportunities and skills gaps in the local area.
We regularly collect feedback from students and employers and are developing methods to collect feedback from parents/carers so we can continue to improve our careers provision at Abbey Park. We will be publishing our first impact report at the end of this Academic Year (July 2020).
