The pastoral support of students is of paramount importance at Abbey Park School to enable students to flourish, overcome barriers to their learning and turn their potential into performance. At Abbey Park School each student is well supported through our Pastoral Team. Every child has a form tutor who they report to every morning for registration. The Tutor is the first point of contact for both students and parents regarding matters such as attendance, uniform and homework. The tutor will meet students on a regular basis for personal development planning sessions, where targets for development will be set.
Each year group is overseen by a Head of Key Stage, assisted by a Pastoral Support Assistant. This team is available throughout the day to support and intervene where matters may arise. The school also has a counselling service which offers drop-in sessions but students can also be referred for 1 to 1 sessions with the consent of parents. There are many links with external agencies which are utilised for different interventions.
Students services and First Aid are available throughout the school day and are often in contact with parents regarding financial matters, lost property and illness.
PSHE is an important integral part of the curriculum at Abbey Park School. Students are taught by their tutors in aspects of health, careers, social aspects of life and safeguarding. This is also supported by the theme for the week which addresses spiritual, moral, social and cultural matters and forms the basis for a weekly year group assembly and discussion in tutor time. Included in this as an emphasis on British Values.
