Homework

At Abbey Park School, we define homework as any learning that is completed outside of the taught curriculum. This includes traditional homework style tasks, but also encompasses a wider range of independent learning activities.

Learning outside of the school curriculum is an essential part of a good education in order to equip students to function as independent lifelong learners. Regular homework is important as it encourages personal organisation and gives students the opportunity to practise and extend work undertaken in class.

Students in Years 7 and 8 are expected to spend a minimum of 1 hour a day on homework tasks, for Key Stage 4 students the minimum expected time is 2 hours per day.

Students should become increasingly responsible for their own learning and time management, especially during preparation for examinations.

Subject Teachers set homework tasks and give feedback to students. This can be in written form or verbal and subject teachers will ensure that the feedback acknowledges and celebrates the student’s efforts.

Show My Homework is an online tool to help parents and students keep track of homework set by their teachers. You will be able to see details of the tasks your child has been set and when the homework is due. The website is https://abbeypark.showmyhomework.co.uk/.

There is also free-to-download app for iPhone/iPod Touch, iPad and Android devices which can provide automated notifications to students and parents when homework is due.

  • You can download the free app for iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad from the App Store (direct link)
  • You can download the free app for Android devices from Google Play (direct link)

SAM Learning

At Abbey Park School, we are always looking for ways to extend our students’ learning. Part of this programme involves the use of SAM Learning, a unique online service that offers revision and testing on multiple subjects. Studies show that students achieve on average 2 GCSE grades better than expected with as little as 10 hours or more use of SAM Learning.

Students are able to access the service at anytime and anywhere. Whether students are at school or at home. All they need to do is visit the website and enter their unique login details (see below):
